It’s great to be back! After 2 pandemic-interrupted years, Christian Aid Week in Scotland was showing signs that ‘normal’ had indeed returned. Our supporters across the country pulled out all the stops to ensure that events were planned, services were held, cakes were baked, miles were walked, books were sold, to name but a few!
50 Years of The Edinburgh Booksale
This year St Andrew’s and St George’s West Church held its 50th Booksale! The largest Christian Aid fundraising event in the UK, the booksale relies on the tireless efforts of the organising committee, the team of volunteers, and the support of the church. The Sale was opened by Christian Aid's Chair Dr John Sentamu. A massive thank you to all involved as once again the total topped the £100K mark, bringing in a whopping £108,000.

Holy Corner Booksale
Another one of our phenomenal booksales, the Holy Corner Booksale was back in business this year, after having done a creative literary Kiltwalk last year! It was great to see the sale busy again. The total raised was a wonderful £6,370.
Kinross Bread of Life Challenge
The Kinross committee took over the high street with their bread stall this year. Selling freshly made loaves, they were raising awareness of hunger in Zimbabwe and challenging people to raise enough ‘dough’ to support families to have their daily bread. The innovative fundraiser raised £3,603 for Christian Aid Week.
Helensburgh Concert
The Helensburgh committee once again had their suit of events planned, culminating in an amazing evening of music at the Parish Church. The Helensburgh Chamber Orchestra entertained the audience with their performances of Haydn’s Symphony 101, and Beethoven’s 4th Piano Concerto. The concert night raised a fantastic £1,085.
Quiz time
The paper quiz was once again made available to supporters in Scotland – and a couple of churches really got the brains of their wider community working! Both Bridgeton St Francis in the East Church, and Shawlands Trinity managed to sell well over 150 quizzes each.

Windfarm walk
The churches in East Kilbride sponsored a group of 12 representatives to do a walk at Whitelee Windfarm. A gorgeous, if somewhat rugged setting, provided the challenge as they did their 10k circuit in the tropical May weather! The group raised a total of £710, with £120 added from Gift Aid.
