What's happening this Christian Aid Week?

Turn over a new page and find a book sale near you or find a book sale near you this Christian Aid Week.

Come and enjoy the Holy Corner book sale at Morningside United Church, Edinburgh on Saturday 11 May (10.00am - 5.00pm), Sunday 12 May (1.00pm - 5.00pm) and Monday 13 May (10.00am - 12.00pm). Can't make it but still want to give your support? You can do so on the Holy Corner website.

David Donald from Holy Corner's organising committee said:

For about 30 years there’s been a book sale in Bruntsfield during Christian Aid Week, it’s become quite an institution. We really hope lots of people will turn out to buy a book or two and support this great fundraiser. We’ll be selling an excellent selection of Scottish and collectible books, paperback fiction, history, art and children's books as well as many others. The doors open at 10 o’clock on Saturday 11 May and we’ve added an extra day this year, so will be open on the Monday too.

There is also the Kinnoull Parish Church's sale on Saturday 11 May in Perth at 10.00am - 4.00pm in the church hall, where teas and coffees will also be available.

Our Church Engagement and Fundraising Officer, Calum, said:

Booksales are a wonderful and longstanding feature of the Christian Aid Week landscape. Led by Kinnoull Parish Church and representing a collaboration of time and energy from congregations across the city, to visit the Kinnoull Booksale by the banks of the Tay is to be part of the newest chapter in Perth's Christian Aid Week story.

- Calum Martin, Church Engagement and Fundraising Officer.

Later on in May (Saturday 18), why not come along to the Alloway Church Halls Coffee Morning, Book and Plant Sale?

The sale takes place between 10am and 12pm, with a £4 entry cost for adults and £1 for children. Home baking, teas, and coffees will also be available.

There is still the opportunity to buy books on Sunday 19 May after the church service, until 12.30pm.

Many churches across the country have held booksales in recent years, including in Falkirk and Aberdeen. Although they are not happening this year, there are more events to join!

Later in the year during Autumn, there is also a book sale happening in New Town, Edinburgh (formerly St Andrew's and St George's).

While the popular Christian Aid Week sale at the former St Andrew’s and St George’s West Church in Edinburgh will not take place this year, the church (now called The New Town Church of Scotland) plans to hold a sale in October.

This Christian Aid Week sale has grown into one of the largest charitable sales in the country. After starting in 1973, it became a well-known event with the stalls set up across the bustling Edinburgh pavements. In 50 years, over £3 million has been raised, thanks to your amazing support.

You can read more about the updated event on Life and Work's article. We hope to see you there!
