Helping others in need is a key part of living out our faith. It's part of who we are called to be.

Throughout the Bible, we see a clear message: love your neighbour, stand with those in need, and act with justice.  Scripture calls us to act with generosity, kindness and compassion towards those who are struggling.

These Bible verses remind us why helping others in need matters.

Respond to God’s call to help others

How you can help others today

In Nairobi, urban poverty is making it harder for parents to feed their children.

With support from our partner, Beacon of Hope, families like Fridah’s are growing fresh food, building income and strengthening their futures.

This Christian Aid Week, you can help more families grow their own food, earn a steady income and protect their children from hunger.

Why the Bible calls us to help others

The Bible shows us that caring for others is at the heart of God’s vision for the world.

Jesus did not stand at a distance from people in need. He met them, listened to them, and responded. He calls us to do the same.

Helping others is about:

  • Love in action
  • Justice, not just charity
  • Standing together with our global neighbours

This is how we live out our faith in everyday life.

Make compassion part of your daily life

As you reflect on these Bible verses, ask God for the wisdom and strength to notice those who are struggling and respond with love.

Whether through a kind word, a helping hand or a moment of generosity, even the smallest act can bring light into someone's life.

'The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.' - John 1:5

A prayer for a compassionate heart

Loving Father,

Thank You for Your endless love and mercy.
Help us to see the world as You do,
with hearts that are open and hands ready to serve.

May we follow the example of the Lord Jesus Christ,
showing kindness to those who are struggling
and standing up for those who are oppressed

Let our lives be a reflection of the words of the Lord,
so that through us, others may come to know Your love

In Jesus’ name,

Amen
